《Painting as a medium》, 2017.10.19 – 2017.11.17, UARTSPACE
UARTSPACE holds Im Sunny’s solo exhibition ‘Painting as a Medium’ from October 19, 2017 to November 17, 2017. The exhibition introduces artworks of new possibilites and new experiments on applying various techniques of Matisse which show the flatness of paintings as well as the scenes and colors of Cezanne’s visual perception from the early Modernism.

Im Sunny, Selected as a 6th Artist-in-Residence at the 2015 Incheon Art Platform.
We would see in our coded viewpoint based on what's already domesticated and learned in this society. Im Sunny looks for the invisible power through the various media, such as image, painting and drawing.

Artist Im Sunny has been creating self-replicative self-portraits by projecting herself onto popular media outlets like movies, news, and dramas. In this exhibition, the artist presents works that superimpose her image onto scenes from her favorite dramas.

Artist Im Sunny Explores the Essence of Painting: “I reveal the hidden sides of seemingly meaningless objects through my own formative elements.”
Im Sunny has long been active in the field of video art. What led her, after so many years, to return to painting—traditional painting—just two years ago? We met the artist at ‘Cafe M Gallery’ in Daechi-dong, where her recent works are on view, to hear her thoughts on the value of fine painting.
